A social environment, a topic, a comment followed by great interaction. Sound familiar? A Facebook group you might think. I guess it could be however there is one distinct difference. The location is the South Perth Yacht Club, a large room with spectacular views over the beautiful Swan River. Real Estate industry professionals are streaming through the door in anticipation of how this day will unfold. There is no agenda for this (un)conference but every attendee has come with a common goal. Share, Listen and Learn.
Coffee and biscuits are provided for all while the organizers take requests for topics to be discussed. Marketing, SEO, Real Estate Video, Social Media, VPA and more, the board quickly fills with names of volunteers who would commence discussions on any particular subject they thought would generate interaction, and if it didn’t? Well attendees could just remove them selves from the group and join one that provided them with the information they were looking for.
2 groups in particular caught my attention. Social Media/Twitter hosted by Peter Fletcher and SEO hosted by Charlie Gunningham. The group atendees that wanted to learn more about the topics took notes and asked questions. Those questions in turn provoked discussion between the members who were more familiar with the topic and openly discussed their view. To say I walked away from both with more knowledge then what I had when I joined in would be an understatement. It was an education like I had never experienced before and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this to any Real Estate Professional who is open to learn and let others learn from their experiences.
The day for me finished with a refreshing beer on the balcony overlooking the Swan, chatting with industry peers about what we had experienced and already contemplating how quickly this great event would grow over the years to come. I for one certainly look forward to future REBarCamps.
